ESU Chile is most grateful to Dr MaryAnn Christison from Utah University for delivering a fascinating conference and workshop.
This photo, taken at the workshop on “Content and Language Integrated Learning”, shows how much she was appreciated! ESU Chile is indebted to the US Embassy for sponsoring the conference on 6 October and the workshop on 8 October.
We should like to thank the Villa María Academy and their wonderful staff for hosting the conference on “Brain Based Teaching Strategies”, and to the equally wonderful staff of the International School Nido de Aguilas for hosting the workshop.
Thanks are also due to Philip Ray of the ESU Chile executive committee who was the driving force behind the two events.

ESU WORKSHOP - CONTENT AND LANGUAGE INTEGRATED LEARNING
The English-Speaking Union Chile offers workshops as follows:
1. Saturday 8th October 2011 from 10.00a.m. to 12.30p.m. at the NIDO DE AGUILAS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
In this workshop, teachers will be introduced to a model for integrating academic content and language in developing EFL lessons. This approach to English language teaching is known as CBI (content-based instruction) or CLIL (content and language integrated learning). The main theoretical principles of the model will be introduced. The presenter will demonstrate how to plan a lesson, develop themes and topics, and appropriate tasks and activities. The audience will participate in several CBI tasks and activities that support the principles being covered.
