KEY DATES 2023

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Eligibility

  • One participant per school is eligible to enter the PSC 2023.
  • Participants must be students from an ESU member school.
  • Participants must be aged between 16 and 20 at the time of the competition.
  • Participants must be passport holders or permanent residents of Chile.

2023’s theme for ESU Chile and all other country’s national competition is:

“Relations between nations are too important to be left to governments alone

All participants will be required to deliver a prepared 5-minute speech on the theme on video, which is sent to esu@esu.cl for judges to view. Video must be received by 17 March for judges to begin their viewing. 
Note, 2023’s PSC Semi-finalists National Competition and IPSC Competition does will include impromptu speech.

PSC Dates/Deadlines to Mark on your calendar:

10 March 2023 – PSC Registration Deadline

17 March 2023 – PSC 5-min video Deadline (sent to esu@esu.cl  for judges to view/score)

20-24 March – 2023 PSC Round 1 judging (virtual)

24 March – Announcement of 2023 PSC top 10 Semifinalist participants (they will need to make arrangements to travel to the capital city, Santiago for in-person, face-to-face Semifinal and Final heats– venue to be announced)

31 March 2023 – PSC Semifinal and Final Heats– participants must be prepared to deliver their 5-minute prepared speech live, on stage, with an audience. 9:00-11:00 Semifinal Heats; 13:00-15:00 Final Heat. Venue to be announced.

01 April 2023 – PSC Chilean Participant is announced and invited to attend the IPSC at Royal Institute London UK

08-12 May: 2023 IPSC Royal Institute London UK

20 April  & 18 May – PSC Teacher Workshops to assist public speaking skills and activities for interschool competitions for selecting PSC for 2024.

31 May (Wednesday) – PSC Online Teacher Workshops. Public Speakings Activity Badge. See PDF. 16:00-17:00 or 19:00-20:00.

CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITIONS

18 April – Announce CWC theme/prompts.

18 May – Closing date for school registration of participant(s): 1 for ages 12-15 and 1 for ages 16-19.

20-27 May – Round 1 judging (virtual.)

1 June – CWC Semifinalists announced.

10 June – CWC Semifinals/Final Event (in person) – workshop activitites / Final judging / Awards. (Venue to be announced in Santiago)

GLOBAL CHALLENGE COMPETITION

June 6, 7 & 8 – Global Challenge “Getting Started” Workshop

July 28 – Final Registration Deadlin (1 team per school)

August 11 – Video Submission Deadline

August 25 – Online Award Ceremony

SPELLING BEE

1-14 August – Pre-registration for Spelling Bees.

25 August – Final registration for participating schools and their participants (1 per grade level)

31 August (Thursday) – Semifinal/Final Heats 3rd, 4th, 5th grades.

1 September (Friday) – Semifinal/ Final Heats, 6th, 7th, 8th grades.

DEBATES TOURNAMENT

18 – 28 July – World Schools Debating Championship will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam. 

9 September – 1st Date.

30 September – 2nd Date.

7 October – 3rd Date & Quarterfinals.

28 October – Semifinals & Finals.

DUOLOGUE & POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION

29 September – Duologue videos submission deadline.

1- 6 October – Round 1 (virtual) judging for Duologue competition.

6 October – Poetry Recitation videos submission deadline.

9 – 13 October – Round 1 (virtual) judging for Poetry Recitation competition.

13 October – In-person Semifinals and Finals for Duologue Competition. Venue to be announced.

25 – 26 October – In-person Semifinals and Finals for Poetry Recitation Competition. Venue to be announced.
