Students left spellbound at the

Las Condes

Spelling Bee

November 3rd, 2017

Following on from the Spelling Bees held earlier in the year with public schools from Santiago and Providencia, on Friday, November 3rd it was the turn of students from Las Condes to demonstrate their spelling abilities at the inaugural Las Condes Spelling Bee.

The teachers from host school Juan Pablo II did a fine job in decorating the school hall, with a yellow and black bee theme the perfect way to get everyone in the mood for some spelling. In total, over 80 students were present from 6 schools, joined by parents, teachers and authorities from the Las Condes education board.

The pattern for the day was established by the 3rd and 4th graders, as the two finalists were locked in battle for more than 30 words before a winner could finally be decided. This was repeated in the older categories, as the audience’s nerves were tested time and again.

While there could only be one winner from each category, all of the participants should be immensely proud of their achievements, as standing in front of a packed hall and delivering under pressure is no easy feat!

After an eventful day of spelling, it was Colegio Leonardo Da Vinci who had the honor of taking home the Spelling Bee Cup, with several of their students managing a top-three finish across the different categories.

We hope that this is the first of many events organized jointly with the Municipality of Las Condes and that more and more public schools get involved in our other events.
