ESU Chile holds the biggest Public Speaking Competition in its history!

April 22nd, 2018

Inspiration, excitement, improvisation and a lot of hard work, the 2018 Public Speaking Competition had it all!

58 participants from across the country met at the magnificent Teatro Municipal de Santiago in search of Chile's best young public speaker. With a place at next month's International Public Speaking Competition on offer, the competition was fierce!

After a day full of amazing and inspiring speeches,  great stories and incredible ideas, the winner was Paula Tuñon from Colegio La Maisonnette.

Additionally, we held the Battle of the Impromptu Speeches, where teachers, coaches, contestants and parents dazzled everyone with their ability to think on their feet.

The winners of the competition were as follows:

To celebrate 100 years of the English-Speaking Union we held an extra day of activities, including a guided tour of the Teatro Municipal, a cocktail for teachers at the Blue Jar restaurant and an afternoon of workshops for the participants.

This amazing event wouldn't have been the same without our amazing guest speaker, former Finance Minister Andrés Velasco, who motivated the participants with a speech about the importance of public speaking in his life.

ESU Chile believes that oracy is an amazing tool for students to develop their confidence and improve their communicational skills, both of which will help them at school and beyond.

This day was an amazing experience that had everyone buzzing and created a wonderful atmosphere among the participants and audience.
